The year is 2010, modern day, but the world is like looking into a mythical past. There is no electricity, no paved, asphalt roads, and no set currency. Instead, in Aaeria, a world full of dragons, shape-shifters, and the power of telekinesis, you use candles for light, you walk on dirt roads, or maybe, if you're lucky, cobblestone, and you trade or barter for the things you need.
Over the past thousands of years, the people of Aaeria have divided themselves into clans. Each clan supports people of their own type, whether it be dragon riders, shape shifters, or those with the power of telekinesis. The way to know who is in your clan is by looking other people in the eyes. On your sixteenth birthday, your eyes will turn either red, blue, or purple, signalling which clan you must join. It isn't a choice, just destiny. Each clan has it's own boundaries and rules, and each has it's own government and punishment force. One thing is universal, though, it is forbidden to enter the clan of another, and if you are caught trespassing, you will face certain death.
The world of Aaeria has many different place to adventure though, so don't assume you're stuck in one place by not being able to visit the other clans. The neutral lands are vast and full of things that will take your breath away. Just be careful, because I don't always mean that figuratively.
There are many creatures in Aaeria that aren't found on earth. Some you may be familiar with, but others don't belong in legend. As you explore Aaeria, you will probably run into one or two of these creatures, so watch your step.

SOLESPER...
For those of the Solesper Clan, life as you know it changes the moment you turn sixteen. If your eyes turn red, then no matter where you are at that moment, you have to leave. For the other clans, if their eyes turn the color of the clan they're already living in, then they have no journey to make. However, the dragon riders are different.
Their gift of riding comes at a cost, one that could mean life or death. They must travel to the Earalas Mountains, a range of volcanic peaks where wild dragons live, located in the center of Aaeria. The journey could take you a month or more, and that doesn't even include the time searching for your egg. You see, a dragon rider can't just grab any old dragon egg and venture home with it-- if you have red eyes, then one of these eggs is destined for you, and only the right one will work.
If you grab an egg destined for another of the Solesper clan, it will never hatch. Only eggs that were destined to grow wild will hatch in the wrong owners hands, and if that happens, you're as good as dead anyway. Wild dragons are born with not only their ability to breath fire, but also a venom in their tail spikes, a venom so powerful it can kill someone in a matter of days. Luckily, wild dragons lose this ability once they turn a year old, so the wild mother dragon's you're stealing eggs from aren't able to poison you. I'd still be cautious though, fire can certainly be more deadly than any venom.
Once you have found your dragon egg, it's time to run. The eggs, while heavy (25 pounds is average), are physically unbreakable, so don't worry about accidentally dropping it. But trust me when I say, it is time to run. Mother dragons will kill for their young, and if they notice a human in their caves, or anywhere in their site, they will try to kill you.
If you successfully escape, and somehow you're still alive, it will take you around another month to venture back to your home in Solesper. The heaviness of the egg will slow you down quite a bit, as well as the injuries you've no doubt collected from your experienced in the Earalas Mountains, so expect the going to be slow. However, once the egg has touched your hands for the first time, you will have exactly three weeks before it hatches. This means you will have at least a week left of your journey home, and it also means that you will need to protect your baby dragon from predators.
It doesn't take long for dragons to gain their full body armor, but they are initially born with next to no protection. For the first month of their lives they are not able to breath fire, and for the first few days their scales are soft, about as strong as cardboard. It is your job during this pivotal time in their lives to keep them safe, because, I think I may have forgotten to mention, once you are bonded with a dragon, if it dies, you die as well. Incentive enough? I sure hope so.

SAELIN...
It's your sixteenth birthday, and you wake up, feeling a little excited and anxious at the same time. You leave your bedroom and your mother, she's either ecstatic or melancholy. Your eyes are now purple, you belong to the Saelin clan. If you were not born into the Saelin clan, then you will leave the clan you were born in, and grew up in.
As you journey to Saelin territory you will go through thick forests, full of many ferocious beasts. Be careful what you attack though, you'll never be too sure if you've run into a fellow clan member or a wild animal. The only way to tell is by the color of their eyes. If an animal has purple eyes, it's a friend. But of course, if you get close enough to some creatures to see the color of their eyes, you might already be dead. Just be very careful, cautious, and aware. Of course, most Saelin clan members are smart enough to avoid attacks from a ravenous sixteen year olds, but none the less, be alert.
Although we are shape shifters, we can only change our form into one animal. That animal, depends on our personality. If you are full of pride and brave, your form could take the form of a regal lion. Or, if you're clever and sly, your form could take that of a sneaky fox. It all depends on your personality, and how you are toward others.
Shape shifting, at first, is a hard thing to do. You just realized that you change the the shape of your body and organs. The first time you shift into your new form, it will be a painful experience, and you need to be sure to stay in that form for a long time. Your body needs to get use to this new form, because it will come in handy once you've mastered shape shifting. Whether you're a mouse or a giant elephant. Once you've gotten use to it, it's a very easy thing to do.
When and if you make it through the dense forests, you will find yourself at the beaches of the Saelin clan, where you will be greeted by your fellow clan members. Good job young voyager, you have made it.

MAISIGH...
It's the day you've been waiting for your whole life. The day you finally find out where you're destined to belong. You close your eyes tightly and stand in front of the mirror; when you open them, you see two vivid blue orbs staring back at you. You belong to the Maisigh Clan, whose members have the power of telekinesis.
The journey to become a true Maisaigh is not as long as the other two, but it too is physically and mentally trying, as well as dangerous. In order to tap into your psychic abilities, you must undergo an entire week of meditation and sensory deprivation. You are completely isolated from the physical world. This is a time of intense concentration, during which you must search deeply inside yourself to tap into your hidden powers.
No moving. No talking. No eating or drinking for all seven days. (Since you aren't taking in any food or liquid, bathroom needs shouldn't be an issue.) And be warned; once you are in this state of deep meditiation, if anything, anything at all disturbs your concentration, there is a strong chance you will lose your mind and become locked in a catatonic state forever.
Once the week is up you will emerge, starving and dehydrated, but with the extraordinary ability to move objects with your mind. Ten out of ten Maisigh clan memebers agree that it is totally worth it.
