It had been about two weeks since Aloysius had woken up to find himself in the hospital after his month-long ordeal, which was a total of six weeks since he had stepped foot inside his own house. He had originally been told he'd only need to stay for a week, but they kept him extra so he could do some physical therapy.
Over the past two weeks, Aloysius had managed to become more guarded with his emotions than the first few days he'd been there. While he still went into a panic if he was somehow reminded of anything specific that had happened, the rest of the time he managed a more or less stoic demeanor, rather than the needy, scared one he'd had at first.
He knew he needed to be stronger for Aimee's sake. Not to mention for Maisigh's sake as well. No matter how fragile a state he was in, he was still the clan leader. He had to be strong, or at the very least appear like he was.
It was a long journey home. In the past six weeks, the furthest he'd gone was the length of a hospital hallway. Even though home was only about two miles away, it was a long way to travel on crutches. Despite the difficulty, though, he liked being out of the hospital. He now had new things to experience that kept his mind off of things he didn't want to think about.
"It's so bright out," he said for what was probably about the third time. Daylight was another thing he hadn't experienced in several weeks. He felt like this was the first time he'd been outside in his life.

It was finally time for Aloysius to return home, and Aimee couldn't be happier. She would be able to sleep next to the love of her life again. She missed him so much, and couldn't wait to have him in their home again.
She couldn't help but laugh when Aloysius said something about the brightness, for like the third time. "It is," she said. "But I like it...it's warm and sunny, my favorite kind of weather...perfect weather for your homecoming."

"Yeah..." Aloysius replied absent-mindedly, looking around. It was a bit of a relief seeing Aimee so happy. Even though he couldn't say he felt the same way, he'd been worried the past two weeks about how much he must've been stessing her out. He hated thinking that he'd been making her unhappy.
"You'll have a lot more time to enjoy it too," he added, referring to the sunny weather, "now that you won't have to do my work anymore."

"I was still planning on helping you," Aimee replied. "I'll help you with whatever you need, just name it and I'll be there." She would help him, and she wouldn't mind it either. Anything to make her fiance happy and feeling better again, she'd do it.

"You've done enough already," Aloysius insisted. He needed to prove to her and himself that at the very least he could still do his job on his own. He couldn't keep relying on her to be his mental crutch or he'd never recover. "You just need to relax and focus on staying healthy for the baby."
The baby. Aloysius still wasn't sure how he felt about it. Of course he loved his unborn child, but he couldn't help but feel it was wrong to bring a child into such a dangerous world. And no matter how much Aimee reassured him, he still didn't feel like he'd make an adequate father.
"I hope we're close," he said suddenly, changing the subject. "This is tiring."

"Yeah," Aimee replied with a nod. "I guess you're right...but if you do need any of my help don't hesitate to call on me." She wasn't about to go down that easily. It was her duty to help all who needed her, and right now, her fiance was the one who needed her. He needed her the most.
She let out a small laugh. "Yes," she replied. "We're almost there." If she could, she would have carried Aloysius the rest of the way home.
Soon enough, they made it, and Aimee quickly trotted to the front door to open it for Aloysius. "Welcome home sweetie!"
