Aimee flinched a little when Aloysius started to panic. It took her a little while, but eventually she was about to calm him down. She sat back in her chair with a sad sigh and placed her hands into her lap. "Aloysius," she said. "You were...alone, scared, confused, hurt...I wouldn't have known what to do in your situation...I'd only be able to watch as well."
Of course, Aimee didn't like to think that way, she'd like to think that she would have fought back as hard as she could, but she knew that if Aloysius wasn't able to do it, she wouldn't have been able to either.

After Aimee had to calm him down again, Aloysius watched her sigh sadly and try to make him feel better. While he didn't feel reassured at all, he felt guilty that he was making her feel so bad. He guessed this probably wasn't how she imagined telling him about their baby. He hated the burden he was putting on her.
"Aimee, I-I'm sorry," he told her after a long pause. "Please don't be so sad. I'll get better. I promise, before the baby comes, I'll be okay again."
He cautiously reached out and took her hand. It would be a hard promise to keep. Recovering from this would be long and difficult, and without Aimee he wasn't even sure it would be possible. But he had to. He had too much to live for right now to let what had happened consume his whole life.

Even though Aloysius told Aimee not to be so sad, all she could manage was a sad smile. It was hard not to be sad about this whole situation, but she was so relieved that he was safe again. "I know you'll get better," she said with a small nod. "I know you will." She held his hand in hers, and stroked the top of it with her thumb.
