I'm not doing anything wrong, the girl said to herself in her head. I'm a good girl! Imogene made her way nervously along the river. For most people, this would be an okay thing, nothing wrong with it, but Imogene was disobeying her parents and leaving Maisigh. Her parents were very protective of Imogene, not only had they lost their first born, but their daughter wasn't always the sharpest tool in the shed. Sure, she was book smart, but Imogene had no common sense.
She stopped walking, and sat on the ground near the water. She tried to keep her mind off of being out here, but tried thinking more about how good this day was going to be. "Just have fun," she said outloud to herself quietly. "You're not doing anything wrong."

Faron had been all over creation lately, hoping to run into that funny little girl Bo. She amused him in a way no one had been able to in a while. Unfortunately he'd had no luck so far. After all, the chances of running into her by chance a second time were pretty slim. Oh well, it's not like he lost any sleep over it.
He wasn't surprised when he came to Sugarcreek and didn't run into her. Instead, he saw another girl--one who actually looked like a girl. He was behind her, so she hadn't noticed him. As he got closer, he heard her talking aloud to herself nervously. He raised an eyebrow when he heard her tell herself she wasn't doing anything wrong.
Slightly intrigued, he got very close to her and said, "Hey!" loudly.

Imogene jumped and let out an 'eep' sound when she heard a voice behind her. She stayed seated, but twisted her upper body around to look at who had found her. It was a really good looking boy, and it made her blush slightly for thinking that. Imogene never really had a true boyfriend, and had only kissed a boy once.
"Hai," she said finally, smiling sweetly. "You scared me!"

Faron, perceptive as he was, noticed the slight pink blush that came to her cheeks as she looked at him. He almost wanted to laugh at how easy this was going to be. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to," he replied kindly, even though he totally had. "My name's Faron, by the way.
"I couldn't help but overhear what you said," he continued. He offered her a playful smirk. "Doing something you're not supposed to be doing, huh?"

"It's okay," she replied. "But it's nice to meet you, my name is Imogene." She had been smiling, but when he asked her about what she was talking to herself about, she frowned. She undercrossed her legs and pulled her knees up a little closer to her chest. She looked down in her lap and bit her bottom lip while playing with a strand of her hair. "My parents worry about me a lot," she told him. "And they don't like me being out on neutral grounds, especially by myself."

"It's nice to meet you too, Imogene," Faron replied with a smile, kneeling down to eye level with her and shaking her hand. He listened to her explain about why she was nervous being out here. She sounded nice and sheltered. An easy target. "Overprotective parents, huh? I bet that can get frustrating sometimes."

"Maybe just a little," Imogene replied. "But they have a good reason, my older brother was kidnapped when I was just a baby." She hugged her knees this time, and rested her chin on them, while rocking from side to side. "I'm sure I would be just as protective of my children if one of them had gotten kidnapped."

"That's horrible," Faron said, as if he cared. He knew how to sound sympathetic when the situation called for it, even if he didn't feel any real emotion about it. "I'm sorry, Imogene. I didn't realize. I don't blame them either." He sat down next to her and, sort of as a method of testing his boundaries, put his arm around her 'comfortingly,' and waited to see how she'd react.

Most girls would have been able to see right through Faron. Most girls would shrug his arm off and snottily ask him what he thought he was doing, but Imogene wasn't like most girls. Imogene thought that Faron really did care, and really did want to comfort her. "It's alright," she replied. "I never got to meet him, but I wish I could have."

Most girls didn't see through Faron. Of course, he didn't try the obvious crap on girl he knew it wouldn't work on. His targets were usually the dumb ones that wouldn't know a shallow jerk if he held up a sign that read 'I'M A SHALLOW JERK!' Like this one.
"You never know, maybe you will someday," Faron told her, knowing full well that that would most likely never happen ever.

"He was five when it happened," Imogene replied. "So he'd be about twenty two now." As dumb as Imogene seemed, she had a feeling that she'd never get to meet him either. It had been about seventeen years since he had been gone, it would be a mircale if by some chance he was somewhere out there.

"Yeah well...anything's possible I suppose..." Faron areplied absent-mindedly. Briefly, he let himself wonder just what had happened to Imogene's brother. Probably kidnapped by some pedo, or maybe he got sold, or even killed, who knew? There really wasn't any way to ever find out so he just stopped thinking about it. "You know, if it's making you sad, we can talk about something else, Imogene."

"Oh okay," Imogene replied. "Yeah, let's talk about something else." It did make her sad, when she talked about him, or when her parents talked about him. It made her sad to even think about him. "What should we talk about instead?"

"Why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself?" Faron suggested idly. "Or maybe you want to know a little bit about me?" Getting to know each other was a necessary evil when it came to taking advantage of someone, especially with girls.
